DCN RESPONDS TO ENDING OF LOCAL HOUSING ALLOWANCE RATE FREEZE

DCN RESPONDS TO ENDING OF LOCAL HOUSING ALLOWANCE RATE FREEZE

Responding to the Government announcing it will be ending the Local Housing Allowance freeze, Cllr Giles Archibald, DCN Better Lives spokesperson, said:

“It is good the Government is to end the Local Housing Allowance rate freeze, about which districts have long been raising concerns.

“However this does not address the fact that in many high cost areas, the freeze has contributed to a growing gap between what claimants receive in housing benefit and the amount they have to pay towards rent.

“The increase in LHA announced today will not close this gap, and there will still be many households on benefit who are unable to afford decent quality private rented housing.”
