Rother and Wealden district councils: Rye export hub
The project
This is an export hub which serves the fishing communities of Sussex, Essex, Kent and further afield. It has also created a new system that works for local fishing fleets with the councils’ shared environmental health service working in partnership with the private sector to support fish exports to France and Belgium from Rye. Since Brexit, the exporting of fish to France and Belgium has changed with exporters having to meet new requirements. The aim is for a local business and other businesses to export more efficiently.
The benefits
The export hub allows independent fishing businesses and fishermen access the European market by export. Without the Hub they would have to pay for an export health certificate, pay for an individual customs declaration, create own invoices and packing lists. The export hub allows all the fish to be amalgamated and export with one export health certificate and other support, saving time and money.
