Pendle Borough Council: Eco friendly housing

The project

This is an eco-friendly affordable housing development in the market town of Colne, using the very best technology to provide zero carbon housing for local people. Each home will be fully electric, maximising the use of power and heating, with solar tiles are used to generate any electricity.  By using ground source heat pumps, warm water and heating will be produced from natural heat underground. This will ensure that residents have lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint.

The council is working with Together Housing – one of the leading social landlords in the north of England and provider of quality, affordable homes – which has ambitions to become a carbon zero housing association. The development will provide primarily two and three-bedroom homes for affordable rents, allowing residents to stay close to their roots.

This will be an invaluable boost to the number of family sized homes in the district, providing 43 two-bedroom homes, 28 three-bedroom homes and eight four-bedroom homes.

The benefits

This development will breathe brand new life into what was previously an overgrown and difficult to access 2.8-hectare site. This will be an attractive development with some of the open space, with all new homes surrounded by existing homes for a healthy space for all residents.

This is another project being delivered by the council’s joint venture company PEARL – Pendle Enterprise and Regeneration Ltd.  It has clocked up a staggering £87 million of projects since its establishment over 12 years ago and the new PEARL Together Partnership strengthens our ability to provide affordable, eco-friendly housing.
