The DCN has submitted a response to the Government’s Housing White Paper consultation.
It sets out which areas of the White Paper are supported by district councils, such as the ability for councils to increase planning fees and a reduction in the time developers will have to implement planning permissions. Areas in the White Paper that it is felt need more discussion include the standardised approach for calculating housing need and extension of the Right to Buy.
The consultation response also warns that the failure to hand councils fiscal freedoms will prevent them from unlocking their potential to deliver more housing while continuing to highlight the counter-productive cuts to the New Homes Bonus.
District councils remain clear that the New Homes Bonus should continue and must not be cut any further.
